2020 Lifetime Service Award — Mr. Tommy Carroll
The Hohenwald/Lewis County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to present the 2020 Lifetime Service Award to Mr. Tommy Carroll. Presenting the award to Mr. Carroll is his son and third generation American Legion member, Barry Carroll.
Tommy Carroll is a Hohenwald native & Vietnam veteran who served in the United States Army from 1968-1971. In 1968, he was drafted and did basic training in Fort Campbell, KY before being sent overseas to South Korea where he served for 18 months. After his time overseas, Mr. Carroll finished his Army service by working in Raleigh, NC.
After the completion of his Army service, Mr. Carroll came back to his hometown and got a job with the United States Postal Service where he worked as a mail carrier from 1971 until his retirement from the USPS in 2004.
Mr. Carroll has been instrumental in the The American Legion Post 127 operations since he completed his Army duties in 1971. He is still an active member of the American Legion and over the years he has held many roles within the Legion, such as Treasurer, Secretary and Commander. He has been the guiding forces behind many of the Legion programs such as marking our veterans graves at local gravesites, roadblocks, raising money for the community and much more.
We thank Tommy Carroll for all that he has done for our community. We thank all of our veterans for their service to our country and around the world.
