The first chamber of commerce was founded in France in 1599, and the first one in the United States was started in New York in 1768. Our Hohenwald Lewis County Chamber of Commerce was founded fairly recently in comparison to these dates, in 1976.
Various benefits accrue to our members, such as deals and discounts from fellow members, a listing in our website, known as the business directory, and various other programs designed to promote business activity in our region. A diverse group of businesses, our members are not limited to Lewis County, but all are interested in the growth of our community and collaboration in economic development.
Local government has a vested interest in promoting businesses and representing Chamber members. Our Chamber often meets to discuss and often shape policy that relates to business and economic environment. Our members are preferred local vendors, and receive listing on various websites and print material promoted by the Chamber of Commerce.
